AboveAir VCU Replacement Units
Every discontinued VCU model, matched to what fits your wall opening
AboveAir no longer builds through-the-wall equipment. If you are holding a nameplate with a VCU-C, VCU-T, or VCU-H number on it, find it below. 18 models are cross-referenced here, matched by wall opening, because that is the constraint that actually decides what you can install.
We are based in New York City and we ship anywhere in the United States by freight. VCU units went into buildings well outside New York, so if you are reading this from another state, you are still in the right place.
To be clear about the company: AboveAir Technologies has not gone out of business. It is operating in Frederick, Maryland and building mission-critical precision cooling for data centers and computer rooms. It simply left the through-the-wall market, and the VCU line went with it. That is a different situation from Aerosys, which closed permanently.
The 36" x 19" replacements we build
VCU-C units were sized for the standard 36" x 19" NYC sleeve, the same opening the Aerosys P Series used. No manufacturer serves it today, so these are custom fabricated to drop into the sleeve you already have.

VCU-C Compact Series
35.5" W x 19" H cabinet, fits the 36" x 19" openingCustom built for this openingSame opening as the Aerosys P Series
The VCU-C Compact Series ran 1.5 to 2.5 tons in a 19" H x 35.5" W x 18.6" D cabinet, sized to slide into the standard 36" x 19" NYC sleeve. That is the same opening the Aerosys P Series used, and no manufacturer builds for it today. Our custom R-454B units are the drop-in answer. Built to order, 14 to 21 day lead time.

VCU-T Series
Send us the opening dimensionsQuoted per jobMatched by measurement, not by catalog
AboveAir published no public dimension sheet for the VCU-T cabinet that we can verify, and we will not print a number we have not confirmed. What we can tell you is that replacements are matched by wall opening. Measure the opening itself, not the old unit, and send us the number with the model off the nameplate. If it lands on a standard opening we have a stock answer, and if it does not we fabricate to fit.

Same as the VCU-T. No verified public dimensions, so no invented numbers. Send the nameplate model and the measured opening and we will tell you what fits, including whether a custom cabinet is the practical route.

Why we will not guess at your VCU-T dimensions
You will find pages online that print a confident wall opening size for every VCU variant. We only publish the one we could verify: the VCU-C Compact Series at 19" H x 35.5" W x 18.6" D, taken off the manufacturer spec sheet. For the VCU-T and VCU-H we could not find a dimension sheet we trust, so we say that instead of filling the cell.
That is not us being unhelpful. On a job, a wrong opening dimension means a unit arrives that does not fit, a crane sits idle, and someone eats the cost. Measuring the actual opening takes five minutes and settles it. Measure the masonry opening, not the old cabinet, and send us the number.
The wider picture for your building
Two manufacturers have now left the 36 by 19 opening: Aerosys closed and AboveAir moved on. That opening is still in thousands of NYC apartments, which is exactly why we had ours built rather than waiting for someone else to fill the gap. If your building runs a mix of both brands on the same line, they take the same replacement, so the changeover is simpler than it looks.
For the Aerosys side of the same problem see our Aerosys replacement cross-reference. If parts of the building are still on R-410A and you need existing stock, the R-410A equipment catalog covers what is left. For planning, start with the through-wall sizing guide and the co-op and condo approval guide.
