When you need serious cooling capacity through a standard NYC wall sleeve, the Aerosys TTWC-R30P21LX delivers. This 2.5-ton LX Series condenser pumps out 30,000 BTU -- enough to handle large apartments from 1,000 to 1,400 square feet, open floor plans where the kitchen flows into the living and dining areas, or multi-zone setups where one condenser feeds more than one air handler. It's the biggest through-wall condenser Aerosys makes in the TTWC line, and it still fits the same 36\" W x 19\" H wall sleeve as the smaller models.
That last point matters more than you'd think. In a lot of NYC buildings, especially postwar co-ops built in the 1950s through 1970s, the wall sleeve is what it is. You can't make it bigger without structural engineering, DOB involvement, and a co-op board that's going to say no anyway. The R30P21LX gives you maximum tonnage within those existing constraints. Pair it with the right indoor air handler and you've got a proper split system that outperforms any PTAC at this capacity level -- quieter inside, more efficient, and built to last longer. Our PTAC vs. through-wall guide explains the engineering differences if you want the full picture.
The LX Series upgrade is particularly worth considering at the 2.5-ton size. Bigger compressors work harder and generate more heat, which means standard components wear faster. The LX's commercial-grade internals -- upgraded contactors, reinforced fan assembly, heavy-duty coil construction -- are built to handle that extra thermal stress season after season. Buildings that went with the standard model at this tonnage tend to see more service calls in years four and five compared to the LX. That's the trade-off you're making at the lower price point.
Technical details for your installer: 208-230V/60Hz/1Ph, R-410A refrigerant, sweat-type connections. Made in the USA. If you're debating between the 2.0-ton and 2.5-ton, don't guess -- an oversized unit short-cycles and leaves you with a clammy apartment. Use our through-wall sizing guide to get it right based on your actual square footage, ceiling height, and window exposure.
